Another name for pilgrimage is parikram. According to sastras (scripture) it is important to conduct a pilgrimage at least once in your lifetime. Parikram is a spiritual journey. It’s a journey from God (Krishna) and returning you to God.

Pilgrimage helps you to separate from the mundane world and gives you a chance to soul search and move to the next level of consciousness.

Pilgrimage is usually seen as pious act.

These days’ pilgrimages have become more luxurious and organized.

People go on pilgrimage for many reasons. Perhaps to say sorry for something they had done wrong (penance), or because they were ill and wanted to heal themselves, a vow they had taken, or just to get away from the mundane world.

Sometimes these pilgrimages are very personal.

Whatever your reason is, after a pilgrimage, nobody returns to the material world in the same consciousness. And to maintain this consciousness it is important that you maintain your sadhana (spiritual practice).

It is advised to complete your pilgrimage with a dip in the holy Ganges before returning to your material home.
